Points
in F1 are awarded to the top ten finishers in a race, from 25 points for the
win down to a single point for tenth place, with an extra point available for
the fastest lap if the driver finishes in the top ten. Sprint races, held on
select weekends, award a separate, smaller points scale. Over a 20-plus race
season, understanding how these points accumulate is key to following a
genuinely close championship fight.
