MotoGP
qualifying is split into two segments, Q1 and Q2, with the fastest riders
from free practice going straight to Q2 and the rest fighting through Q1 for
a chance to join them. Grid position matters enormously in MotoGP, where
overtaking on tight circuits can be far harder than in car racing, making a
strong qualifying lap one of the most valuable skills a rider can have.
