A rally
event is broken into individual timed sections called special stages,
connected by untimed transport sections called liaisons. Only the special
stages count toward the final result, but liaisons still carry strict time
windows — arriving late can result in penalties, adding a logistics dimension
to rally that circuit racing simply doesn’t have.
